The preparation of garden soil requires a lot of time and effort. In case, you have not mixed the ingredients the right quantity, then the plants sown on these beds will not yield proper results.
Vital Components In Soil Preparation:
There are 6 vital components which are required for excellent preparation of soil. These includes:
- The soil should not be very compact. Loose soil is beneficial for proper growth of plants.
- Make sure that you dig or cultivate your soil when it is dry. It is because wet soil can not separately easily.
- In order to make your soil fertile make sure that you add organic matter to it at regular intervals. This organic matter will give rise to garden worms which will help in preparing the garden soil.
- The important point to remember is that dig or cultivate the land only when it required. Do not dig or cultivate unnecessarily.
- While preparing the land make sure that you keep the fine soil at the top and the rough soil in the middle as the sub soil.
- Once you have finished with your preparation make sure that you have firm the soil. This can be done with the back of a rake or fork.
Steps To Prepare Herbs Garden:
The preparation of herb garden is a two step program which involves the following steps. These steps includes:
Broadcast Fertilizing: While you are preparing your bed for spring plants make sure that you add your fertilizer in equal amount. Use a hand spreader to mix the granules evenly into your soil. Making your soil over fertile will also spoil the soil. Once you have mixed the fertilizer properly in the soil then with the help of the hand spade make the surface prepared for the plants smooth enough for them to grow. Once your plants will start growing they will utilise all the nutrients. At this point, you will have to add more nutrition in the soil for the proper growth of the plants.
Side dressing: Although you have added enough amount of fertilizer in the soil at time of preparation of the bed but as the plants grow they will absorb enough of it. So, it is advisable that you add some amount of the same mixture at frequent intervals. Another thing which can be done is you prepare the mixture of soil and fertilizer in the same quantity and dig a trench bedside the bed of plants without disturbing the bed. Add this mixture to this bed and close it with the same removed soil. This will provide nutrition to the growing plants with the help of erosion and irrigation.
