Slugs are annoying pests which mostly come out during nights. You can hardly find them during the day. They hide in moist and dark places, mostly underground.
At times, Slugs can be an advantage to the garden too.
They manage the soil by introducing humus.
They help in forming soil crumbs.
They also clear up the dead and decaying matter in the garden.
Control Of Garden Slugs:
- Place broken egg shells or coffee grounds arounf the plants. This is one way to keep them away.
- The use of sand is another way to keep slugs away. Slugs hate sand as it rips open their belly and they die.
- Beer is one way to kill slugs. Dig a hole of 4-6 inches deep. Place a plastic cup filled with beer inside. Slugs are attracted to yeast and barley and so they trapped in this.
- Salt also kills Slugs. But they can be harmful to plants.
- Slugs hate the colour red and tend to avoid it hence plant many plants with red leaves.
- Spray household ammonia solutions on and around the plants.it eradicates slugs and also acts as a fertiliser to plants.
- Diatamaceous earth is one effective solutions to get rid of these pests.
- Natural predators likes frogs, toads, centipedes etc are a big threat to slugs. So this can be one way to keep them away.
These are few effective ways to keep Slugs away from your Garden.
