If you think that your garden needs a decent look and it should smell wonderful, then growing lavender plant can be a wise choice. Lavender grows well almost everywhere. It thrives in sunny, dry area. The threat from insects and pests is minimum and even deers and goats dont like to eat it.

Lavender is a perennial. It could be grown upto eight to twleve years. So while choosing the place, the left out spots in your garden can be ideal.
Here are few steps to grow lavender in your garden:
- There are about 39 varieties of lavender and many more subspecies of them. Picking the right variety is the initial challenge. Best lavenders are those from the species of “lavandula augustafolia.”Be sure that the colour of lavender you choose suits your need and location.
- Summer seasons are ideal for planting lavenders. Lavender grows well in the months of April, May and June.
- The ideal pH of the soil for lavender is the range of 7.5 and 8.5. You can add lime to the soil to make it alkaline to the above range.
- Watering too much is dangerous to the plant. While planting make sure that you have not watered it too much. If you find the spot prone to stagnant water then make a slight slope to the field which helps in promoting drainage. Make sure that slope should not lead to excessive erosion.
- Lavender grows best in less himid air. If you think your garden is humid, keep plenty of space between the plants so that the air can move around the plants and off-set the humidity.
- Adding organic matter can improve plant oil production and enhance the fragrance in lavender plants.
- Pruning once in a year can make them grow nice and bushy.
- One extra thing to remember is do not plant lavender near plants that need a lot of water and always keep the lavender away from sprinkler systems. You can plant lavender near succulents or other law-water plants such as rosemary.
