Bonsai was originated 1000 years back in China and was later developed by the people of Japan. ‘Bonsai’ is generated from two different words- ‘bon’ and ‘sai’, which means ‘tree in a pot’. Bonsai are drafted trees which grow in small pots. Their height is reduced purring their roots and branches, wiring their trunks and branches and using other techniques to make the tree look mature. Steps for planting Bonsai are discussed below:
Steps To Plant Bonsai:
- First choose a plant which you will plant as Bonsai. You can have any of the outdoor or indoor plants. Some out door plants are: Chinese elm, ficus, jade tree etc. indoor plants are: weeping fig, Natal plum etc which can be used.
- Now, decide the shape of your Bonsai. You want it elongated, upright, slanting, cascade or weeping shape. Any shape you can go for.
- Now, wire the truck of your Bonsai plant to be shaped at 45 degrees and bend it to give it your desired shape.
- Tie the branch with string and pull it down to your desired angle and tie to a knob on the pot itself.
- You can hang weight on branches to keep it at particular angle.

Branches of Bonsai plants can be given various shapes some of them are:
- Formal Upright Style: In this tree grows straight.
- In formal Upright Style: In this trunk emerges at an angle but apex fall relatively at same lines as that of trunk.
- Slanting Style: In this trunk grows at an angle to soil and apex is also not in the same line as that of trunk..
- Broom Style: In this apex is straight but the foliage mass is shaped in upside down forming a shape of broom.
