The moon has its tricks. When it can raise high tides in a sea, imagine what it can do to your garden. Sir Rudolf Steiner was the person who came up with Bio-Dynamic Gardening- How the moon’s phases can affect plants.
Bio-dynamic gardening is a science that has been developing ever since 1924 when bio-dynamic agriculture was started. There has been an immense amount of research and development on this done till date and it is still going on. Bio-dynamic gardening is closely related to Organic Gardening.
How it works?
The moon is believed to have different effects on the Earth at each of its phases. The moon’s cycles-ascending and descending- affect plants too in different ways. The basic idea behind Bio-Dynamic Gardening is to use the moon’s energy to nurture and help plants grow faster and give better yield. The science says that seeds should always be planted when the cycle of the moon is in the descending phase.
The Zodiac
The twelve zodiac signs are divided into four parts, one for each part of the plant. The four divisions are Root, Leaf, Flower and Fruit. Each of the twelve zodiacs affects one part when their turn comes. This way, each part of the plant is allocated with four zodiac signs. For example, when Capricorn is the ruling root of the plant is affected. In this case, when a plant whose main product is a root, say potatoes, is planted, the yield is relatively much better. Same is the case with any plant having any other product- leafy vegetables, flowers, or fruits- except that the zodiac signs are different for each of those.
The Lunar Calendar
According to the zodiacs and the moon’s phases, a lunar calendar is prepared by specialists. This calendar specifies when a particular kind of plant producing one of the four plant products can be sown. If trees are planted according to this calendar, the plants always grow better. Many people who have tried the lunar calendar testify this statement.
