Potatoes are the vegetables easiest to cook and grow. While cooking them needs a minimum level of expertise, growing them is comparatively easier. Here’s how.
What you will need for your potato garden:
Seeded potatoes
General garden equipment, for digging the soil and making holes
Water
A knife
Soil, of course
How to Go Ahead:
The first step is to identify the sprouts on the potato if you’re lucky. If you don’t find sprouts already, using a sharp knife, cut the potato into pieces. Leave these pieces in a sunny, airy place till the eyes sprouts.
When the sprouts are done, it’s time to get the soil ready. Keeping the land clear is a priority. After this, loosen the soil and dig holes so that the sprouted pieces fit in. See to it that there is gap of 12 inches between two holes.
Place these pieces, sprouted side up and cover it up with the soil. The sun plays a major role in nourishing potato plants. Water the plants, and you’re ready to go.
Taking Care and Harvesting
Keep weeding the plants on a regular basis. Keep insects away from the plants, they are bound to mess it all up. Limited use of fertilizers is a good thing. Instead of fertilizers, trying some home remedies is a better idea for any crop. Watering the plant is the most important part of taking care of the plant.
The general harvest time for potatoes is 70 days. After this period, when the plant dries up and withers, it’s an indication that your potatoes are ready. Pluck them out and store in a dry place to use later.
