- You need to shape your plants according to the size of your container and place in proper place where adequate amount of sunlight is available.
- You containers must have holes for proper drainage. Try to have drainage holes in your containers or at the least, a 1-2 inch layer of mud at the bottom of the container.
- You are always suggested to use a good potting soil and never use garden soil. You need to prepare the soil mix with perlite; peat or vermiculite that can retain moisture for a long time and yet be well draining. It is also lighter and doesn’t compact as the season passes on.
- If any kind of paste is noticed in your plants you need to treat those container plants with appropriate pesticides.
- To give your container garden the best look you need to balance the size of the plants appropriately with the size of the plants.
- You need to water the plants in container very carefully and regularly. Lack of water may kill the plants in a container garden. It is so because these plants can’t move their roots deep into the soil as the plants in ground can do. So you need to check at least twice a day whether your plants are having the adequate water especially during summer season.
- There are some potting mixes available in market that generally comes with fertilizer. But if you are not having this kind of potting mix then you need to replenish the soil with proper amount of fertilizer so that your plants can get proper nutrients from the soil.
- You are suggested to opt for such containers those are having the capacity between 15 and 120 quarts. Try to avoid selecting small containers because it sometimes restrict the root area as well as dry out very fast.
- In summer season try to use light-colored pots that can lessen heat absorption as well restrict uneven root growth.
- Try to avoid containers with narrow opening and also avoid containers made of cheap plastics and woods.
