Being an arthritis patient are you still passionate about gardening? Arthritic patients find it difficult to work in the garden. Gardening requires a lot of hard work but by following proper safety measures you can prepare your body for gardening. Here are some tips which would be helpful in continuing your passion for gardening.
- Perform a small warm-up exercise like gentle back, neck, leg and arms stretches or go for a brisk walk in the yard before starting your task.
- Next step is to plan your gardening activities and ensure that you keep all the things needed ready before you start gardening.
- Most important thing is that you should enjoy your time in the garden.
- Select the right gardening tools. Prefer joint-friendly or ergonomic tools, these would reduce stress or pressure on the joints.
- Before buying these tools remember that tools should be heavy duty but light weighted, long and thick handled but with softer grip.
- Sit down as you work as it reduces the load from the weight bearing joints.
- You can use a low sitting stool instead of bending as it would relieve stress from your knees.
- While kneeling down, you can use form knee pads or cushioned kneelers as it would lessen the impact on your knees.
- Keep changing your job regularly. You can alternate an easier activity with a laborious one.
- Try and avoid being in one position or repetitive motions, as this may aggravate arthritis problem.
- It is advisable to take 15 minutes of break after every hour of work.
- After finishing your work make sure to do gentle stretches, shake your muscles and joints once again.
- In the end reward yourself with a warm bath.

Easing Arthritis pain at workplace: If arthritis is interfering with ones job, they can make simple changes at the work place to ease arthritis pain and stress on their joints. they can change physical settings at work place. They can ask for flexible hours that are convenient for their to work. Have scheduled rest periods at office and share their responsibilities with others.
Try not to do much work at one go; break the work and complete it. Do not overstress on their joints and try to distribute the load. Attend educational programs that are conducted for all ages to manage their symptoms.
