Late summer is the best time to grow your pumpkins and savor a variety of delicacies from your own pumpkins.
All you would need is – full sun and a well drained and highly fertile lose soil with organic matter and pH between 5.8 and 6.8.
Procedure
- Pumpkins are propagated by seed. Seeds germinate at the temperature 60F to 105F, although they wont be able to germinate in cold soil. The best temperature would 95 F.
- Leave the seeds to germinate for a week with adequate moisture.
- Two weeks after your last frost date had passed, check if your soil is about 70F and then plant your germinated seeds.
- Make large hills of soil in your garden where you want to grow your pumpkins. Make sure each hill is about 4-8 feet apart from the other.
- Within the center of each hill or heap of soil place 2-3 seeds.
- Use black plastic mulch to speed the growth and you’ll have 2-3 inch tall plants.
- However, a patient wait for a few more weeks would reward you with golden yellow pumpkins.
