There are certain periods when the infestations of garden pests is higher than usual. If you are not very fond of chemical pesticides, you can try these natural remedies that may help you to reduce losses.
- Water your plants in the morning so that plants are left dry during nights.
- Keep your garden clean. Dispose the crop refuse early as possible.
- Make sure you plant seeds from disease-free plants. In case you are doubtful you can buy disease-free healthy seeds from the market.
- Make sure you also select pest-free transplants.
- If you find any severely diseased plant in your garden, dispose it before it contaminates other plants.
- Use good garden mulch to reduce damage caused by nematodes.
- Weeds harbor insects and diseases. Make sure you keep them out.
- Hand-pick and dispose insects if you find any.
- Make sure your vegetables do not touch the soil. Try to use Mulch to avoid vegetables touching the soil and rotting.
- Summer fallowing and Summer flooding controls nematodes.
- You can use insect traps baited with pheromone lures to catch insects.
- Use sprays made up pf naturally occurring materials such as Diatomaceous Earth, Pyrethrin, Rotenone and Ryania to get rid of some insects.
