Nice message with some good tips. However, let me invite people to set up some experiments with plastic bottles. These "containers" can easily be transformed into "self-watering" systems by using the bottom of a bottle as a small water tank in which the inverted top part (more or less 2/3 of the bottle) is absorbing the water gradually through one or two small perforations in the lid or bottle neck. For more info, have a look at some postings on my weblog www.containergardening.wordpress.com
