- Water your houseplants properly. Correct watering is critical to houseplants as they tend to die from improper watering over all other factors. Make sure you give your plants adequate water neither more nor less.
- Fertilize your houseplants. Fertilizers help your houseplants grow vigorously. You can use a slow release or a water soluble fertilizer. You can use the adequate amount of fertilizers during summers, springs and early fall and reduce the fertilizer rate by half from late fall through winter.
- Prune regularly. You must keep checking often for any signs of disease or damage. If you see a portion of a leaf or stem affected, remove that particular section only. This will prevent the spread of disease to the other parts of the plant.
- Keep your plants clean. Often due to our neglect, the leaves of our houseplants may develop a dust covering. Dust covering is not good for your plant’s health as it reduces your plant’s ability to produce its own food. You can clean your plant leaves with a wet towel or a rag to wipe away the dust covering. You can also rinse your plants while you water them. This would also prevent the dust from settling over your leaves. However make sure you wash your plants early during the day time, doing so during the evening may leave your plant leaves damp and that can increase the risk of fungi infections.
