Roses have always been valued for their beauty and have a long history of symbolism. The ancient Greeks and Romans identified rose with their goddesses of love referred to as Aphrodite and Venus. And what a matter of pride and ecstasy it is to own a beautiful rose garden. I know many people for whom Rose gardening is more of passion. They pamper their gardens like they pamper their kids.
So if you are an amateur gardener willing to have a lovely Rose garden at your backyard then you should try these tips.
- Roses love Sunshine:Your yard should get a great deal of sunlight during the day. Your roses will grow well if your rose bushes get a minimum of six hours of sun during the day.
- Just a little water: Make sure the soil in which you plant your rose bushes drains well. A rose bush will not thrive well in a soil which is moist all the time. In a good soil, a rose bush needs to be watered at least twice a week.
- Test your soil: Soil testers are widely available and relatively inexpensive. When testing your soil, your pH level is going to be most important for success with roses. A pH level of 5.5 to 6.6 is the ultimate situation for raising a rose garden of your own.
- Discard the dead head flowers: As your roses grow and change every year, you will need to pick off the dead head flowers. Picking off the flowers that are dead will bring new life to your bush.
- Prune your rose bush: In the spring of the year, you will need to prune your rose bush. The blackened portions of your rose bush need pruned away to promote additional new growth over the entire plant.
- Treating your bushes at the first sign of disease: If you find black spots on the leaves of your rose bush, this will keep your plant from suffering and from any disease from spreading over the entire plant. Treating your plants at the first sign of Japanese beetles is going to save their luscious green leaves from these tiny creatures.
